Lookman Near Atlético Madrid Move After Improved Offer

Ademola Lookman is closing in on a move to Atlético Madrid after the Spanish club improved their personal terms and reached an agreement with Atalanta.

The Nigeria international had initially pushed for a summer exit to Inter Milan, but Atalanta refused to sell to a Serie A rival for less than €50 million. A January switch to Fenerbahce also collapsed after the Turkish side failed to provide the financial guarantees demanded by the Italian club.

Atalanta had insisted on a €40 million package, with up to €35 million paid upfront Fenerbahce could not meet. Atlético Madrid, however, agreed to the same overall fee with a payment structure more acceptable to La Dea.

Lookman was initially reluctant to consider Atlético, having already agreed personal terms with Fenerbahce reportedly worth €9 million per season plus bonuses.

However, according to reports from Football Italia citing Sportitalia, Sky Sport Italia, Fabrizio Romano and Sports Digitale, Atlético have since improved their offer, prompting Lookman to reconsider the move.

The forward was left out of Atalanta’s squad for Sunday’s Serie A clash against Como to focus on final negotiations.

Atalanta are also said to favour a deal with Atlético following their successful January business involving Giacomo Raspadori’s move to Bergamo.
