Obasanjo’s Daughter, Iyabo, Defects To APC In Ogun State

Daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, has joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State.

The former senator representing Ogun Central reportedly completed her e-registration into the party on Tuesday at Ibogun, Ward 11, in Ifo Local Government Area.

Confirming the development, a close ally, Biodun Ajayi, said Prof. Obasanjo successfully registered as a member of the APC during the ongoing membership registration exercise in the state.

However, the Ogun State APC Director of Publicity, Femi Nuberu, declined to confirm or deny her registration, noting that the exercise was open to all eligible Nigerians and managed at the ward level.

A former House of Representatives member from the area, who spoke anonymously, also confirmed the development, describing it as factual.

The move has surprised political observers, who had earlier speculated that the former Ogun State Commissioner for Health and ex-senator might return to the PDP or join the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Prof. Obasanjo, now an Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Maryland, has previously said she was not actively seeking elective office, adding that her political future remained in the hands of God and her supporters.
