Banditry: Two Kwara LGs Enforce Total Curfew

Two local government councils in Kwara State Edu and Ifelodun have declared 24-hour curfews in parts of their areas as part of measures to curb banditry and kidnapping.

In Ifelodun Local Government Area, a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the council chairman, Abdulquadri Jimba, said a round-the-clock curfew had been imposed on the entire Oro-Ago District, effective from 6 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

The statement said the curfew, which restricts all human and vehicular movement, was introduced to support ongoing security clearance operations aimed at protecting lives and property.

Similarly, the Edu Local Government Council announced a 24-hour curfew on Gbugbu community, including the popular international market, with effect from 6 p.m. on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.

The council said the measure was necessary to aid security forces as they continue operations in the area, adding that movement would remain restricted until further notice.

Confirming the development, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, said the curfews would help security agencies track fleeing criminals and identify informants, noting that bandits were already under pressure from sustained operations.
