PDP Crisis: Turaki Speaks On Jonathan’s Reassurances To NWC

Amid a deepening leadership crisis, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja, seeking guidance and reassurance.

The meeting, held at Jonathan’s Maitama office, brought together the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), state chairmen, former governors, Board of Trustees members, and other senior figures.

 Discussions focused on the party’s leadership dispute, preparations for off-season governorship elections, and national issues.

The PDP is currently split between two factions: Abdulrahman Mohammed’s camp, loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and Taminu Turaki’s camp, backed by Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed and Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde.

Briefing journalists afterward, Turaki said the delegation introduced the newly elected NWC to Jonathan and updated him on party activities since the November National Convention. 

He added that Jonathan reaffirmed his active membership in the PDP and offered encouraging support ahead of upcoming elections, including Ekiti’s governorship race and the 2027 general elections.

On ongoing litigation and INEC oversight concerns, Turaki noted the party is complying with legal requirements and electoral guidelines but expressed worries over perceived interference.

 He emphasized that reconciliation remains the goal and promised to reintegrate aggrieved members who demonstrate genuine commitment to unity.
