The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says that it has started the second phase of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise from Jan. 5, across 31 Local Government Area offices in Akwa Ibom.
Obo Effanga, The Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo on Tuesday.
Effanga warned those who had completed their registration in the first phase which ended on Dec. 10, 2025, not to register in another location as same would amount to double registration.
He also warned those whose names were already on the register as at 2023 general election, not to register again.
The REC reminded eligible voters of the provisons of section 23 of the Electoral Act 2022, which spells out the penalty for double registration, attempt to induce registration officers, giving false information, disruption of registration exercise, among others.
He directed all electoral officers to ensure that registration centres are opened by 9 a.m. daily for the exercise.
“I am pleased to report that following my earlier directive, all 32 Registration Centres located at the State headquarters and 31 INEC LGA offices opened for business by 9 a.m. today, signaling the commencement of phase two of the nationwide CVR exercise in Akwa Ibom.” Effanga said.
He highlighted that the second phase of the exercise provides opportunity for citizens, who could not register during the first phase to do so.
The Rec assured electorates that registration centres in the state will open between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily, except on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
He restated that the exercise is for those who are 18 and above in age as well as those who required a replacement of their lost or damaged Permanent Voter Card (PVCs) and voters wishing to transfer their registration to new locations.
Effanga further explained that people wishing to correct or update their voter information like names and addresses, were also eligible to register.
