The Federal Government, through the Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL), has commissioned 100 energy-efficient two-bedroom homes with urban farming spaces in Rigachikun, Kaduna State, under the FHFL Social Housing Programme for 100 widows.
A key highlight of the project is its remarkable origin. The widows pooled their land together and approached the Federal Government through FHFL to construct social housing for them. This act of initiative and partnership has now been rewarded with sustainable homes, livelihood support, and a model for inclusive development.
The President, represented by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu, commissioned the project in Rigachikun, Igabi Local Government Area, of the state.
He said the housing scheme is part of a broader grassroots-driven development initiative designed to support widows, orphans, and other vulnerable citizens in all 8,889 wards across the country.
“This project is about hope, compassion, and opportunity ensuring that every Nigerian, regardless of circumstance, has access to a decent home and a fair chance to thrive,” President Tinubu said.
He explained that under the administration’s approach, each community identifies its own priorities for targeted government intervention. “While some communities may prioritise housing, others may require agricultural support, skills development, or business expansion,” he noted.
The President acknowledged that ongoing economic reforms may be challenging but said they are laying the groundwork for a stronger, more inclusive economy. “We are building a nation where growth is felt by everyone, especially those who have long been left behind,” he added.
National Coordinator of the Adashe Women Society, Dr. Umma Sani, praised President Tinubu for launching what she described as a first-of-its-kind initiative that directly benefits widows and orphans.
“For the first time in Nigeria’s history, widows are receiving free homes no mortgage, no hidden cost. This restores dignity and stability to countless women,” Dr. Sani said.
She explained that the Adashe Women Empowerment Society has championed women’s economic independence through skills training and cooperative support. She added that the new homes would provide a solid foundation for widows to rebuild their lives and contribute meaningfully to society.
“This is not just a house; it is a new beginning for every woman who has struggled without shelter and stability,” she said, urging beneficiaries to take ownership and protect the properties.
Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, commended President Tinubu for including Kaduna among the first states to benefit from the programme, describing it as a reflection of the administration’s compassion and inclusivity.
“This project represents more than housing it represents dignity, stability, and renewed confidence for our women,” Governor Sani said.
Also speaking, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, said the project aligns with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to expand access to affordable and quality housing through innovative partnerships.
Chairman of Family Homes Funds Limited, Mr. Ademola Adebise, described the project as “a symbol of renewed hope and restored dignity,” stressing that the partnership among the Federal Government, Adashe Women Society, and Family Homes Funds demonstrates how inclusive collaboration can translate policy into real social impact.
