The Federal Government has unveiled new measures aimed at sustaining the recent decline in food prices across the country by improving access to affordable farm inputs and enhancing community-level food storage systems.
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, CON, made this known in Abuja, emphasizing that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is committed to tackling the root causes of food inflation through targeted interventions in production, distribution, and preservation.
Kyari explained that the Ministry is intensifying efforts to reduce the cost of fertilizers, seeds, and irrigation materials in order to support farmers and boost productivity nationwide.
He said part of the government’s plan is to establish community-based silos and storage facilities to prevent post-harvest losses and strengthen local food systems.
“We are working to make farm inputs more affordable and accessible, while also ensuring that farmers have nearby storage facilities to preserve their produce. This will help stabilize prices and sustain the progress already made. the Minister stated.
He noted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu, which prioritizes food security as a foundation for economic growth and national stability.
Kyari also emphasized the impx3rtance of collaboration between the Federal Government, state governments, and private sector partners in achieving the Ministry’s goals.
He reaffirmed that the broader agricultural strategy includes mechanization, improved rural infrastructure, and stronger private sector participation to make agriculture more efficient, profitable, and sustainable.
“Our approach is to build resilience across the agricultural value chain, from production to storage and distribution, ensuring that farmers benefit and consumers enjoy stable prices,” he added.
