FG Steps Up Seed Certification Reforms To Strengthen Food Security

The federal government of Nigeria is ramping up its seed certification reforms to strengthen food security.

This decision took place when the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, to advance collaboration on Nigeria’s food security agenda.

Talks focused on expanding access to certified seeds, establishing a decentralised seed certification system with strict quality controls, and finalising preparations for the upcoming dry season farming.

They noted that strengthening agricultural productivity is central to reducing food inflation, attracting private investment, and securing long-term economic growth for Nigeria, the discussions added.
