New School Curriculum Unveiled: AI, Coding, Digital Literacy Now Compulsory

Nigeria’s new secondary school curriculum has surfaced online, revealing sweeping changes that introduce coding, artificial intelligence, and digital literacy as core subjects.

Shared by presidential aide Dada Olusegun on Wednesday, the list covers Junior and Senior Secondary levels, with classes set to begin in September 2025.

At the JSS level, students will now study digital literacy, coding, and entrepreneurship, alongside mathematics, science, and languages. Senior Secondary students will advance into programming, AI, robotics, cybersecurity, and project-based research.

Traditional subjects like English, mathematics, social sciences, and creative arts remain, but with an added focus on practical applications and global competitiveness.

The Federal Government says the overhaul is aimed at preparing students for the future of work and positioning Nigeria as a knowledge-driven economy.
