“Bringing Obi Back To PDP Will Kill The Party” – Wike Warns

The political storm within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is intensifying as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has warned that moves to bring Peter Obi back into the fold could spell doom for the opposition party.

In recent weeks, top PDP figures, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, have openly admitted that discussions are underway to woo Obi, who defected from the party to run as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in 2023.

Obi, who has since pledged to serve only one term if elected president in 2027, has emerged as a key political figure with a massive youth following. Many within the PDP see his return as a chance to rejuvenate the party’s presidential prospects.

But Wike is having none of it. Speaking during a media chat on Monday, the fiery former Rivers State governor lashed out, describing the idea as “dangerous and hypocritical.”

“Obi once called PDP rotten. So now the same party is suddenly good for him? If you want to kill the PDP, then dare to bring Obi back,” Wike thundered. “Ambition can take people even to Satan’s house, but the party must not fall for it.”

Wike argued that Obi’s re-entry would not only compromise the party’s credibility but also erase what little ideological foundation it still holds.

“Principles and ideology are the soul of politics. The moment you abandon them for ambition, you lose everything. Obi’s return would be the final nail in the coffin for PDP,” he added.

With the 2027 elections looming and the PDP struggling to find its footing after its 2023 defeat, Wike’s comments have thrown a sharp wedge into the party’s internal debates raising the stakes on whether the opposition can unite or implode before the race begins.
