Australia Expels Iran’s Ambassador Over Terror Plot Links

Australia has expelled Iran’s Ambassador, Ahmad Sadeghi, after intelligence linked Tehran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to arson attacks on a Sydney kosher restaurant and a Melbourne synagogue.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong said Iran had “crossed a line,” stressing that no foreign regime would be allowed to orchestrate violence on Australian soil.

Canberra’s spy agency claims it traced funding for the attacks directly to Iran, though the local perpetrators may not have known they were acting under Tehran’s orders.

In response, Australia will designate the IRGC a terrorist organisation and has suspended operations at its embassy in Tehran.

All Australian diplomats have already left the country.

Iran dismissed the allegations, accusing Canberra of trying to “appease Israel” following Australia’s recognition of a Palestinian state.
