EPL Drama Returns As Liverpool Leave It Late To Beat Bournemouth

The drama that is synonymous with the English Premier League (EPL) returned in full force on Friday, August 15, 2025, as reigning champions Liverpool sealed a thrilling 4-2 win against Bournemouth in the opening game of the new Premier League season.

The Reds left it late after blowing a two-goal lead in a game that saw Mo Salah score on the opening weekend for the 10^th consecutive season.

The Premier League opener was also earlier paused after Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by someone in the crowd.

Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike marked his first league start with a goal (37′) and Cody Gakpo doubled the lead shortly after half-time (49′).

Bournemouth fought back with two impressive goals from Semenyo (64′, 76′) who shove the racial slur to the back of his mind to level the score before a a dramatic finish.

Substitute Federico Chiesa scored late (89′) to restore Liverpool’s lead, before Mo Salah netted a fourth in added time (94′).

With tonight’s goal, Mohamed Salah moved up to level fourth in the all-time Premier League goalscoring list.

He is now on 187, alongside Andy Cole.
