Tinubu To Visit Japan, Brazil For Diplomatic, Economic Engagements

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will on Thursday, August 14, embark on a two-nation trip to Japan and Brazil, with a brief stopover in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu will attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Yokohama, Japan, from August 20 to 22.

With the theme “Co-create Innovative Solutions with Africa,” TICAD9 will focus on driving Africa’s economic transformation, improving the business climate, and strengthening institutions through private investment and innovation. The conference will also address human security, peace, and stability.

While in Japan, Tinubu will participate in plenary sessions, hold bilateral talks, and meet CEOs of Japanese firms with existing or prospective investments in Nigeria.

TICAD, launched in 1993 by the Japanese government and co-hosted by the UN, UNDP, African Union Commission, and World Bank, is held every three years, alternating between Japan and Africa. The last edition was in Tunisia in 2022.

Following the Japan trip, Tinubu will proceed to Brasília, Brazil, from August 24 to 25, on a state visit at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

In Brazil, Tinubu will hold bilateral discussions with his host, attend a business forum with Brazilian investors, and witness the signing of agreements and MoUs to deepen cooperation between both nations.

He will be accompanied by key ministers and senior government officials.
