20 Killed In Night Raid On Plateau Community, Survivors Blame Fulani Militias

At least 20 people, including women, children, and the elderly, were killed on Monday night when gunmen suspected to be Fulani militias attacked Bindi community in Ta-Hoss district, Riyom LGA of Plateau State.

According to the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), the attackers launched a coordinated house-to-house assault while residents slept, leaving scores injured and homes burnt. Survivors alleged the attackers were heavily armed Fulani extremists, intent on seizing their land.

“This massacre mirrors previous attacks across Riyom and other parts of Plateau,” COPDEM leaders Gideon Manjal and Gadu Daniel Dong said in a joint statement. “Despite the presence of security forces, the attackers struck unchallenged. Their hideouts are known and have been repeatedly reported,yet nothing has been done.”

The group accused authorities of negligence and called for an immediate military intervention, the declaration of a state of emergency, and direct humanitarian aid.

“We are tired of condolences and empty press statements. Our people are being buried daily,” the statement read. “What we need is security, justice, and decisive action to end this bloodshed.”
