Int’l Friendly: Arokodare Rescues Nigeria From Defeat Against Russia

Tolu Arokodare was on target as Russia and Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw in their international friendly on Friday, June 6, 2025.

Russia opened the scoring in the 27th minute through an own goal after Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi accidentally turned the ball into his own net.

The Super Eagles fought back in the second half, levelling the score in the 71st minute thanks to a composed finish from Tolu Arokodare, following an error by the Russian goalkeeper.

Both teams displayed determination and flashes of brilliance throughout the match but it wasn’t a vintage Super Eagles’ performance. But they showed grit and determination to earn a share of the spoils in Moscow.

Nigeria registered six shots, four of which were on target, while Russia managed 10 attempts but only two required a save from the goalkeeper.
