The Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Agege and Orile-Agege LG/LCDA Chapter has debunked claims making the rounds that the leadership of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State is behind the political crisis rocking the LG/LCDA.
The Matrix Newspaper reports that the LG/LCDA has been rocked by protests since the Local Government primaries that took place on May 10, 2025.
Aggrieved members of the party in the LG/LCDA had staged several protests to kick against what they termed as the political hijack of the party structure by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LSHA) Rt Honourable Mudashiru Obasa.
Hon Adetunji Akinyemi, PCC Spokesperson Agege/ Orile Agege, had during the several protests lamented the culture of imposition, lack of level playing field and total disenfranchisement of credible candidates in the LG/LCDA politics.
They also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to rescue Agege/Orile Agege from the draconian and iron grip of Obasa, who they asserted has held the party structure in the LG/LCDA by the jugular in the past 16 years.
However, a twist was introduced to the saga a few days ago when a certain Hon Akinkunmi in a now viral video, exonerated Obasa from the crisis rocking the LG/LCDA.
In an exposé, he disclosed that after carrying out his findings, it was discovered that Obasa is not the problem.
He categorically stated that the APC Leadership in the LG/LCDA is the problem and is the one responsible for the imposition of candidates.
Firing back, Bamofin Akinyemi debunked the statement credited to Akinkunmi.
He noted that he must have been misinformed or deliberately tried to mislead the people about the true picture of the situation playing out in the LG/LCDA.
In the statement sent to The Matrix Newspaper, Akinyemi challenged Akinkunmi to disclose where he conducted the investigation that led him to the wrong conclusion being peddled around.
Hear him, “It’s possible Honourable Akinkunmi has been misinformed or he has chosen to mislead the public, or it’s a paid service, but I would like to say posterity will judge everyone.
“Akinkunmi will not be able to relate to the plight and grievances of Agege people, as he is from Epe area of Lagos and trying to downplay the outcry of Agege people is not good enough.
“It is good to ask where he carried out his investigation and got misinformed, thereby arriving at a wrong conclusion” he began.
Continuing, Akinyemi questioned Akinkunmi on how APC leadership is the problem while disclosing that it has been the norm and the directive from the party leadership that there should be a consensus candidate, but, in instances where there is no consensus, there should be an indirect primary.
“Perhaps he did not know, there is a directive from the party that there should be a consensus candidate, where there is no consensus candidate, there will be indirect primaries, but for over 16 years, Rt.Hon Obasa has put up a structure which is rigid and also determines who gets a position or not, and this has affected other eligible candidates or aspirants to be voted for.
“We have been very peaceful with our protest, but if nothing is done, we will take the protest further.
“Let’s not castigate our leaders, they are not our problem, Rt. Hon Mudashiru Obasa is our problem, he has turned a deaf ear and has refused to listen to the plight and agony of the people, this is not a good leader’s attribute,” he lamented.
Speaking further, Hon Akinyemi raised questions on how many empowerment programmes have been done by Obasa and his followers as compared to those not in charge of Government funds, while disclosing that he has personally done many empowerment programmes from his personal purse.
Taking up the challenges of a rerun as canvassed by Akinkunmi, Akinyemi noted that they are ready.
“As regards the challenge, we are ready for the rerun. You also mentioned the bridge done by Obasa, was it his personal finance? Also, is it the responsibility of the House of Assembly to construct bridges?
“And you said that just to mislead people. As it is not the responsibility of the Assembly, yes, he might have moved the motion, which of course must have been approved by people who genuinely love the people. There are educated Inhabitants of Agege, as it is wrongly believed that Agege people are uneducated.
“Hon Ogundimu still remains relevant in the community two years after leaving the Assembly, I stepped down from being Orile Agege chairman for him because he has a strong, formidable structure, and has done many countless empowerment and numerous community support.
“Hon. Opeifa is a people’s development person, he’s a capital development person, he helps people substantially. How many people has Obasa helped?” he queried.
He canvassed that there should be a consensus for credible leaders to be voted in while lamenting that the person selected as Agege Chairman aspirant, Alhaji Tunde Azeez is nowhere to be found while Obasa’s son was chosen to be his vice against the directives of the party leaders.
“Let me state it clearly, six people have taken up the Agege chairmanship form and where Alhaji Tunde Azeez cannot be found, the six people that has been screened should be allowed to run.
“This time around, we will not permit imposition in Agege. I’d also like to appreciate our party leaders, as I know they will not close their ears and eyes to this present situation.
“I say categorically, Mudashiru Obasa is the only problem we have in Agege/Orile Agege, as he intends to impose his son and others on us.
“He cannot bully us out of Agege or the party. Let’s be guided. I reiterate that the leaders are not our problem, so do not mislead the people, and what we are saying is enough is enough,” he added.
