Agege APC Crisis Deepens as PCC Rejects Primary Results, Accuses Obasa of Political Hijack

In the statement signed by Hon. Sabitu Kamorudeen, PCC Chairman for Agege, and Bamofin Adetunji Akinyemi, PCC Spokesperson for Orile-Agege, the council accused the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, of orchestrating a long-standing political monopoly that has, for over a decade, controlled the local political landscape through intimidation and exclusion.
“The outcome was not a reflection of due process but a culmination of manipulation, exclusion, and abuse of party machinery,” the PCC declared, describing the entire process as hijacked by entrenched interests serving personal ambitions.

The PCC alleges that Obasa has used his influence to suppress dissenting voices and block reform-minded candidates through a combination of patronage politics and outright coercion. Aspirants were reportedly denied access to nomination forms, endorsements were withheld, and in some cases, threats were allegedly issued to discourage participation.

A major flashpoint in the dispute was the attempted imposition of Obasa’s son as the party’s candidate—an effort the PCC claims failed due to grassroots resistance. A subsequent attempt to replace him with another political proxy is cited as further evidence of what the PCC describes as “deliberate subversion of the people’s will.”

“This is not a political estate to be inherited,” the statement emphasized. “We will not be forced out of a party we helped build. The APC belongs to all of us.”

While reaffirming their commitment to the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the PCC warned that loyalty to the APC must not be confused with submission to internal oppression. They urged the party’s leadership at the state and national levels to call Obasa to orderand to restore fairness and internal democracy in Agege politics.

The council concluded with a strong call to action and a reaffirmation of their resolve:
“We will continue to resist every attempt to destroy the democratic foundation of our local politics… The people of Agege and Orile-Agege have risen—not out of sentiment—but out of a desire to reclaim dignity and restore balance.”
