Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and 21 PDP lawmakers have dumped the party and decamped to the All Progressives Congress APC, in what is seen as a political tsunami in the Oil Rich State.
With this development, the Delta State House of Assemby is 100 percent APC as the remaining Seven were elected on the platform of APC.
The Speaker, Hon Guwor on resumption of plenary announced the defections which he said was after due consultations with their constituents and political stakeholders in tthe state and in alignment with section 109 of The Constitution of Nigeria.
He further stated that their decision to join the ruling party was to support President Timubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The mass defection of members of the Peoples Democratic Party, led by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, to the All Progressives Congress was made in the overall interest of Deltans and the state.” “We are fully committed to partnering with the Federal Government to deliver greater development to Deltans.
“On behalf of the House, I commend the courage and visionary leadership of Oborevwori in making this strategic and timely decision.
“As a legislative body, we stand with His Excellency in this endeavour. This renewed partnership between the state and Federal Government must be supported and allowed to flourish, so that we can begin to enjoy its benefits in the shortest possible time.” The Speaker continued.
The Speaker attributed their defection to the instability within the PDP’s national leadership and factional divisions within the South-South zonal executive committee, leading to internal conflicts and disunity within the party.
“With this action, the Delta State House of Assembly is now composed entirely of members from the All Progressives Congress. We thank our constituents for endorsing this progressive course of action.” He concluded.
The Majority Leader of The Assembly, Hon Emeka Nwaobi moved a motion for the adoption of the letters of party change and was seconded by Ferguson Onwo, who represents Isoko South II.
