Senate Sets Up 18-Member Panel To Oversee Rivers Sole Administrator

The Nigerian Senate has inaugurated an 18-member committee to oversee the activities of Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), the recently appointed Sole Administrator of Rivers State.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the committee’s formation during Tuesday’s plenary session, emphasizing its mandate to ensure transparency, accountability, and effective governance in the state.

Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele will chair the committee, which Akpabio described as crucial to reinforcing legislative oversight in Rivers State. 

He also noted that the panel’s composition may be revised after further consultations.

“The committee must begin its duties immediately. This is a matter of urgency,” Akpabio said, reaffirming the Senate’s dedication to upholding democratic norms.

Committee members include Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu, Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire, Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe, Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed from Jigawa State, along with the Clerk of the Senate.
