Renowned gospel singer and beloved radio personality Bolaji Adedotun Olanrewaju, widely known as Big Bolaji, has passed away at the age of 50.
The vibrant minister, who had been a towering figure in Nigeria’s gospel music scene for decades, died on Saturday, April 19, 2025, after a brief illness. His death was confirmed in an official statement released by his family.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bolaji Olarewaju, affectionately known as ‘Big B’,” the family said. “A cherished father, husband, brother, and ordained Pastor in the RCCG, Bolaji was a beacon of faith and joy whose legacy goes far beyond the melodies he created.”
Big Bolaji’s influence extended well beyond the church pulpit and studio.
He was a regular voice on radio, an inspiring figure at concerts, and a spiritual pillar in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), where he served faithfully as an ordained minister.
Known for his electrifying stage presence and soulful worship, Big Bolaji also founded the annual “Turn It Up With Big Bolaji” gospel concert in Ibadan, which became a staple in the city’s spiritual calendar.
Born in Osun State but raised in Ibadan, Big Bolaji was a certified estate surveyor by training. However, it was his unwavering devotion to ministry through music that left an indelible mark on thousands.
He was mentored under the guidance of Bishop Francis Wale Oke at The Sword of the Spirit Ministries and also served on the board of directors of the Living Spring Music Festival, influencing a new generation of gospel musicians.
“His departure leaves a void in our hearts that cannot be filled,” the family said. “Bolaji’s life was a testament to his passion for music, his unwavering faith, and his dedication to uplifting those around him.”
