As Nigerians celebrate Easter 2025, several prominent leaders and religious figures have shared heartfelt messages reflecting on the significance of the season, emphasizing themes of hope, peace, and national unity.
President Bola Tinubu reassured Nigerians of his administration’s firm commitment to ending insecurity in the country. In his Easter message, he expressed empathy for those affected by violence and reiterated that clear directives have been given to security agencies to decisively restore peace. He stated, “Forces of evil will never prevail over our country… we are turning the tide and making steady progress in reclaiming peace and stability.”
Tinubu also acknowledged economic hardships and promised efforts to stabilize the economy, urging citizens to remain hopeful and united as the nation parallels Christ’s resurrection with Nigeria’s journey toward prosperity.
Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, representing Ekiti Central called on Nigerians to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ—sacrifice, healing, and reconciliation—and to reject divisive politics that undermine national unity and progress.
He condemned recent violent attacks in Benue and Plateau states as contrary to Christ’s teachings and stressed the need for leadership rooted in justice and shared responsibility. Bamidele revealed that the National Assembly is working on legal frameworks to establish state police as a structural solution to insecurity, empowering communities to defend themselves constitutionally. He also criticized political actors who exploit Nigeria’s challenges for selfish gains, urging Nigerians to see the country as a collective project rather than a battleground for political conquest. He concluded by urging all Nigerians to choose healing over hatred and unity over unrest this Easter season.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State urged Christians to emulate Jesus Christ’s virtues of humility, perseverance, and compassion. He called for unity and togetherness as central goals for Nigerians, encouraging Lagosians to contribute positively to the state and nation’s development.
Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi reflected on Easter’s message by calling on Nigerians to be compassionate, selfless, and forgiving. He acknowledged current challenges but expressed optimism that Nigeria’s resources and innovative minds would help the nation emerge stronger.
Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi, Southwest leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), highlighted Easter as a symbol of triumph over despair and urged Nigerians to challenge the nation’s problems such as insecurity and economic hardship. He called for national unity and solidarity, especially praying for those affected by insecurity in Benue State. Ajadi encouraged party members and Nigerians alike to renew their commitment to justice, equality, and a prosperous future.
Bishop David Oyedepo, presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners’ Chapel), preached on the spiritual authority believers receive through Christ’s resurrection. He warned Christians to be mindful of their words, as “life and death are in the power of the tongue,” emphasizing that resurrection not only guarantees salvation but also empowers believers spiritually.
Pastor William Kumuyi, General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, reminded Christians of the redemptive power of Christ’s crucifixion and resurrection, describing it as the act that took away humanity’s suffering and curses.
Reverend Matthew Hassan Kukah and CAN President also urged Nigerians to embrace hope amidst adversity, promote peace, and extend kindness to the marginalized. Kukah called for peace, justice, and accountability, encouraging Nigerians to rise above despair and division, while CAN emphasized spiritual renewal and unity across religious divides.
These messages collectively underscore Easter 2025 as a time for reflection, renewal, and a call to action for peace, justice, and national development in Nigeria.
