As the politicking for the 2027 general election begins to gather steam, there is palpable tension in the camp of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent visit by opposition camps to former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Matrix Newspaper reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, on Friday, embarked on a visit to the immediate-past President Muhammadu Buhari at the latter’s residence in Kaduna.
While the ex-VP tagged the visit a post-Sallah visit, it triggered apprehension among Tinubu’s loyalist after it emerged that Atiku was accompanied on the visit by the immediate-past governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai; a former governor of Benue State, Senator Gabriel Suswam; former Governor Jibrilla Bindow of Adamawa State; former Governor Achike Udenwa of Imo State, and former governor of Sokoto State, Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, among others.
Some of the president’s supporters took to social media to express their concerns about the visit which they termed as a gang-up against Tinubu and a plot to chase Tinubu out of power.
According to Nasir Muhammad, the coalition are perfecting the strategy to use in chasing Tinubu from power.
“The same merger that the All-Progressives Congress (APC) used in chasing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under Goodluck Ebele Jonathan out of power will be used in chasing APC under Tinubu out of power” he wrote on Facebook.

On his part, Adesinaola Olusegun opined that the purpose of the visit which came a few days after APC governors also visited Buhari was to nullify whatever agreement must have been reached with the ex-President.
“They are there to nullify any conclusion APC governors have reached with Buhari” he wrote.
According to Adetolani Sam Adewuyi, he asserted that the gang-up has commenced while calling on the Souther leaders and elites to watch out.
“The gang-up has begun, I hope Yoruba and southern elites are watching. I also hope Tinubu will not chicken away like Jonathan” he added,
Meanwhile, the Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume, has warned that President Tinubu should be worried if his predecessor, Buhari, is not on his side.
The lawmaker, who has been a major critic of the present administration, made the assertion on Friday during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.
The lawmaker, while describing Buhari’s followership, particularly in the North, as occultic, said although the former president has just one vote, he remains an adorable figure.

He said, “Buhari’s followership has diminished naturally because it is different when you are not in power and after spending like eight years in power. Of course, his popularity has diminished, it is natural, but you can’t write him off, especially with the Northern masses. The followership of Buhari has been occultic. You cannot explain it.
“If Buhari is coming here now, you will see people rushing to see him. Everybody, including those in the vegetable market, will rush here. Buhari is still with the Talakawas.
“Tinubu should be worried if Buhari is not on his side. Every number counts, and Buhari has one vote. Tinubu should also be worried about my position. Because I have one vote for him. He does not have a vote for me.”
In a related development, El-Rufai in a veiled jibe at Tinubu and his loyalists have called on those he described as adversaries not to lose sleep over their visit to Buhari if they are indeed politically irrelevant.
In a post on X, El-Rufai, who recently defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) from the APC said the visitation was for “unity and brotherhood”.
“We joined over faithful for Jumaat prayers at the Yahaya Road Mosque and had a sumptuous lunch at the Buhari Residence,” he wrote.
“By the way, our adversaries should not lose any sleep. It is not about politics. It is about unity and brotherhood. And since we are all politically irrelevant, we just prayed and enjoyed lunch with our mentor.”
