Naira Appreciates At Official Window, Depreciates At Black Market

The Nigerian currency, the naira, appreciated marginally against the American dollar at the official window on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, in the first trading session after the Eid-El-Fitri holiday.

According to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Foreign exchange data, it showed that the naira appreciated to N1,531.25/$1 from N1, 536.82/$1 it traded on Friday, March 28, 2025.

This indicates that the naira appreciated by N5.57 against the dollar on a day-to-day basis.

On the black market, the naira depreciated to N1, 555/$1 as against the N1, 550/$1 the previous day. This represents a loss of N5 for the local currency.

The naira gained N20 against the British Pound to trade at N2,005/£1 as against the previous day’s rate of N2,025\£1.

The Canadian Dollar appreciated to N1,150/CA$1 as against the previous rate of N1,200/CA$1.

The naira gained N40 against the Euro to trade at ₦1, 660/€1 as against the previous day’s rate of ₦1,700/€1.
