Putin Supports U.S. Proposal For 30-Day Ceasefire In Ukraine, Calls For Further Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed support for a U.S.-proposed 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine but emphasized the need to refine the terms to ensure lasting peace.

Speaking at a news conference in Moscow on Thursday, Putin acknowledged the proposal as “correct” but stressed the importance of discussing key details with U.S. officials.

He highlighted concerns about potential violations of the truce and whether Ukraine might use the pause to reinforce its military capabilities.

“We agree with the proposals to halt the fighting, but we proceed from the assumption that the ceasefire should lead to lasting peace and remove the root causes of the crisis,” Putin said.

He suggested that Ukraine’s willingness to consider a ceasefire may be influenced by its battlefield situation, particularly regarding Ukrainian forces in Russia’s Kursk region, who he claimed would soon be fully surrounded.

Putin also expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for prioritizing conflict resolution in Ukraine and acknowledged the efforts of China, India, Brazil, and South Africa in seeking an end to hostilities.

However, he reiterated that Russia would not accept NATO peacekeepers as monitors in any potential truce.
