PDP South-South Factionalized As Leadership Crisis Escalates

The South-South zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been thrown into turmoil following a controversial meeting convened by the party’s zonal leadership in Benin, Edo State on February 15.

The meeting, called by PDP South-South National Vice-Chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, has sparked internal strife, with Zonal Secretary Chief Felix Omemu condemning it as illegal and urging members to boycott the gathering.

In a statement on Thursday, Omemu argued that the meeting violates the PDP Constitution, which requires approval from the Zonal Working Committee (ZWC) before convening such a gathering.

“As the Zonal Secretary, I am not aware of any resolution authorizing this meeting. I distance myself from this illegal gathering and urge party leaders to do the same,” Omemu stated.

He further alleged that the meeting’s agenda was suspicious and could damage the party’s interests, warning that key PDP stakeholders—including state governors, former governors, National Assembly members, and State Chairmen—had not been properly consulted.

Omemu called on party leaders to rein in Orbih to prevent further division within the South-South PDP.

This latest crisis adds to the growing turbulence within the opposition party, as internal disagreements continue to threaten unity ahead of future political contests.
