Ogun Govt Condemns Portable For Attacking Officials

The Ogun State Government has sharply condemned singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, following his violent attack on officials from the State Planning and Development Permit Authority.

The incident occurred at Portable’s bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area of Sango Ota, where state officials were assaulted while on duty.

In a statement released on Friday by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Portable was branded a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal” notorious for unprovoked assaults on government officials.

Akinmade denounced the attack as “unacceptable and barbaric” and affirmed that the administration would pursue all legal measures against the offender.

Expressing alarm over the rising disorder attributed to Portable’s actions, Akinmade noted that the musician’s behavior has unsettled local residents and undermined governmental authority.

He reiterated the administration’s commitment to upholding the values of decency and the “Omoluabi ethos” that characterizes the state, warning that any individual defying the law, regardless of status or influence, would be met with strict legal consequences.

“The manner in which Portable and his cohorts attacked the officials of the OGPDPA is not only bizarre but also a clear sign of the erosion of the Omoluabi ethos—a great disgrace to our state,” Akinmade stated.

He further emphasized that Governor Dapo Abiodun remains resolute in promoting a just and egalitarian society, prepared to ensure that offenders face the full wrath of the law.

In related developments, the Ogun State Police Command arraigned nine of Portable’s associates before a Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, on charges including felony, assault, and other related offenses.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 28, have pleaded not guilty to allegations that they attacked officers from the Ota Zonal Planning office.
