Stand-up comedian and actor Bovi has opened up about his decision to relocate his children to the UK, citing concerns over bullying in Nigerian schools.
Speaking on the Uncolored podcast, Bovi shared that his kids have been living in the UK for two years, with his first son enrolling in a boarding school in 2021.
He recalled his own experience in Nigerian boarding schools, which made him street-smart, but he chose a different path for his children due to the widespread bullying culture.
“My kids don’t live in Nigeria anymore. They’ve been in the UK for two years. It started by accident—my first son has been there since 2021 in a boarding house,” he said. “I wanted him to experience boarding school, but not in Nigeria, because the system here has normalized bullying.”

Bovi also spoke about the ongoing brain drain in Nigeria, especially among professionals like doctors.
He noted that poor working conditions, not just low salaries, are driving many to seek opportunities abroad.
“The saving grace of this country is that we haven’t had war, food shortages, or natural disasters,” he remarked. “We lose 500 doctors in a year, but 200 more graduate. It’s like putting a band-aid on a deep wound.”

He emphasized that for professionals to stay, Nigeria must create an enabling environment similar to what exists in Western countries.
“It’s not just about money. If you’re passionate about something but don’t have electricity or basic support to do your job, would you stay? Patients have died here because of power failure during surgery. No doctor wants to work under those conditions.”
Bovi’s comments have sparked discussions on Nigeria’s education system and the ongoing migration of skilled professionals in search of better opportunities.
