Tragedy In Ondo As 30 Burnt To Death In Devastating Auto Crash

At least 30 passengers were killed in a tragic auto crash at Onipetesi, along the Ore-Lagos highway in Ondo State. 

The horrific accident involved two commercial buses that collided head-on and immediately burst into flames, leaving 28 victims burnt beyond recognition.

Eyewitnesses reported that 32 people were involved in the crash. 

Two survivors with severe injuries succumbed before reaching the hospital, while two others remain in critical condition.

Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the casualty figures, attributing the accident to reckless driving and excessive speeding. Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the vehicles was driving against traffic, leading to the fatal collision.

Dr. Ibitoye urged drivers to prioritize safety, maintain their vehicles properly, and avoid reckless driving. 

He also encouraged passengers to speak out against unsafe driving practices, emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility.

Authorities have since moved the deceased to a hospital morgue, while the injured are receiving medical care. An investigation is underway to determine further details about the crash.
