Lagos Lawmaker Dismisses Claims Of Tinubu Reinstating Obasa as Speaker

A Lagos lawmaker has dismissed reports that President Bola Tinubu directed members of the Lagos State House of Assembly to reinstate ousted Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, calling it “fake news” meant to distract newly elected Speaker Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.

The claim, which circulated widely online, suggested Tinubu had pressured lawmakers to reinstate Obasa, arguing that the political cost of his removal outweighed the need for accountability.

However, Assembly members insist this is baseless and that Meranda remains the legitimate Speaker.

“Lagos lawmakers are solidly behind the leadership of Rt Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, who was constitutionally elected,” a lawmaker stated.

Obasa was removed on January 13 by 32 out of 40 Assembly members over allegations of misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office.

Despite multiple reported attempts to reclaim the position, lawmakers remain firm in their decision.

Meanwhile, an aide to Speaker Meranda declined to comment officially, emphasizing that she remains focused on governance and will not be distracted by “cheap talks and mere speculations.”
