Mr Umoru Peter Ozigi, The Edo State Police Commissioner has retired from service after clocking the mandatory retirement age of 60, born on 25 January 1965, Ozigi was enlisted into the Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP,
he served for 23 meritorious years in several capacities, rising to the height of his career.
He left the Force in a colourful pullout parade witnessed by top police officers, representatives of the Oba of Benin, the State Governor and family members.
Ozigi said that he was leaving the Police with a sense of gratitude, fulfilment and reflection:
“From my first day as a Cadet to the Commissioner of Police in Edo state, each experience has shaped me professionally.
“I have had the privilege of working with dedicated officers, supportive colleagues and resilient communities and together we fight to uphold the law, protect the innocent and serve the nation with integrity.” He said while expressing gratitude and appreciation to the leadership of the police force for their guidance and support throughout his career.
The outgoing CP commended his fellow officers for their commitment and bravery and appreciated the support of his family, thanking the government and people of Edo for their trust and cooperation, even as he commended their collaborative efforts in crime prevention and community engagement:
“I hope the relationship between the police and the public will continue to foster a safer environment for all.
“I urge you to remain steadfast in their duty, serving with passion and upholding the values of their profession.” He said
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State in his remarks, said that the outgone CP brought stability and peace to the state during his tenure, represented by his Deputy, Dennis Idahosa, he thanked Ozigi for his sterling performance in the state as the last assignment in the Force:
“The outgoing CP Ozigi came at the time when Edo State was facing the challenges of cultism and cult-related fights, but he was able to bring peace and stability to the state.
“So, we are here to thank him for his sacrifices and his outstanding service to the people of Edo State, ensuring that there is stability and peace in the state.” He said while charging the incoming CP, Betty Enekpen Otimenyin, to continue with the progress her predecessor:
“My message to the incoming Commissioner of Police is she was born and raised here and knows the challenges that we have and would prefer solution to them.” He said.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (IGP), Zone 5, Mr Arungwa Udo, in a goodwill message commended Ozigi for his exceptional service to the nation and the maintenance of peace and order in Edo, noting that his legacy will outlive him and act as a guide others behind him:
“Retiring does not mean you would be tired. We will look forward to you for advice based on your enormous experience.” He said.
