JUST IN: Appeal Court Confirms Abure As Legitimate LP National Chairman

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld Julius Abure’s position as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.

In a ruling delivered on Friday by a three-member panel led by Justice Hamma Barka, the court affirmed its earlier decision from November 13, 2024, recognizing Abure as the party’s leader.

The court emphasized that this judgment has not been overturned by any other judicial authority.

The ruling was delivered in response to two appeals filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman, the caretaker committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Justice Barka clarified that leadership disputes within political parties are non-justiciable, meaning courts cannot adjudicate such internal matters.

 Consequently, the Federal High Court ruling of October 8, 2024, by Justice Emeka Nwite, which sought to nullify Abure’s leadership, was declared void due to lack of jurisdiction.

The appellate court’s decision reinstated the November 2024 judgment, unequivocally stating that “Abure remains the National Chairman of the Labour Party.”
