NFF Unveils New Super Eagles Coach Eric Chelle

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially unveiled Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles on Monday at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

The event attracted football enthusiasts and stakeholders eager to welcome the 47-year-old Franco-Malian coach.

Chelle’s appointment, confirmed last Tuesday by the NFF Executive Committee upon the recommendation of its Technical and Development Committee, has sparked mixed reactions among football fans.

Speaking at the unveiling, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau expressed optimism about Chelle’s potential to elevate the Super Eagles’ performance.

“We understand the passion Nigerians have for football, and while there have been varying opinions about this appointment, we urge everyone to rally behind Coach Chelle,” Gusau stated.

“The NFF is committed to providing him with the support necessary to achieve success.”

Chelle’s first task will be guiding the Super Eagles B team in the African Nations Championship in East Africa next month, followed by the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda (away) and Zimbabwe (home) in March.

The coach brings significant experience, having led Mali to the brink of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

He also recently resigned from his managerial role at Algerian club MC Oran to take up the Super Eagles job.

Gusau assured fans that the Federation is focused on creating an enabling environment for the coach to thrive and deliver results.

Chelle’s appointment marks a new chapter for Nigerian football as the team aims to reclaim its place among Africa’s elite.
