JUST IN: Court Dismisses Emefiele’s Jurisdiction Plea In $4.5bn, N2.8bn Abuse of Office Case

The Ikeja Special Offences Court, presided over by Justice Rahman Oshodi, has rejected an application by former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, challenging the court’s jurisdiction in his ongoing trial for alleged abuse of office involving $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion.

In the ruling delivered yesterday, Justice Oshodi affirmed the court’s jurisdiction to try Emefiele on the charges brought forward.

The judge stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had established territorial jurisdiction on counts eight to 26, as supported by the proof of evidence.

However, the court struck out counts one to four, which pertained specifically to allegations of abuse of office.

In June 2024, the Federal High Court in Lagos issued an interim forfeiture order for properties worth N11.14 billion, allegedly linked to the embattled former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
