“From Almajiri School To NNPCL CEO” – Mele Kyari Reflects On His Journey At 60

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mallam Mele Kyari, has shared his inspiring journey from attending an Almajiri (Tsangaya) school to leading Africa’s largest energy company.

Kyari, who marked his 60th birthday on Wednesday, expressed gratitude to Nigeria, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunities he has had to serve as the last Group Managing Director of the NNPC and the first CEO of the restructured NNPCL.

In a heartfelt post on his X handle, @MKKyari, he reflected on his life journey, describing it as a path marked by “good and bad times, travails and triumphs, pains and happiness, failures and successes.” 

He attributed his accomplishments to the grace of Allah and the support of his family, colleagues, and teachers.

“This milestone compels me to serve with greater conviction and elevated expectations of eternal recompense,” Kyari wrote, while seeking forgiveness from anyone he may have hurt along the way.

He acknowledged the sacrifices of his family, particularly during his years of public service, and thanked his friends, associates, and mentors for their contributions to his life and career.
