JUST IN: EFCC Sacks 27 Officers Over Fraud, Misconduct

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed 27 officers from its workforce in 2024 for engaging in fraudulent activities and misconduct.  

In a statement released on Monday by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, the EFCC reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy toward corruption within its ranks.

The dismissal was based on recommendations from the Staff Disciplinary Committee and was approved by the EFCC’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.  

Oyewale stated: “The officers were dismissed for various offences bordering on fraudulent activities and misconduct. Their dismissal underscores the Commission’s commitment to maintaining integrity and discipline within its workforce.”  

The statement also addressed ongoing investigations into a trending $400,000 allegation involving an unidentified staff member and a sectional head.

The EFCC alerted the public about impersonators and blackmailers exploiting the Commission’s name to extort money. 

Two alleged fraudsters, Ojobo Joshua and Aliyu Hashim, were recently arraigned for attempting to extort $1 million from a former Nigerian Ports Authority Managing Director, claiming to offer a “soft landing” on behalf of the EFCC Chairman.  

“Ola Olukoyede remains a man of integrity, unyielding to monetary influences. Any fraudulent attempts or impersonations should be reported to the Commission immediately,” the statement emphasized.  

The EFCC also warned against blackmail attempts by suspects under investigation who failed to compromise investigators, urging the public to disregard such schemes.
