Oil Marketers Set To Start Lifting Petrol From Warri Refinery By February 2025

Oil marketers are preparing to begin lifting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the Warri Refinery, which is producing 125,000 barrels per day, by February 2025.

This marks a significant step as the refinery gradually returns to operation. 

Harry Okenini, Chairman of the Delta State chapter of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), confirmed that while only automotive gas oil (diesel) and kerosene are currently being produced, the refinery aims to start producing PMS, cooking gas, and other products by February.

The National Chairman of the Surface Tank and Kerosene Peddlers, Israel Omokere, also affirmed the refinery’s partial functionality, noting that kerosene and AGO are being loaded out for distribution.

Earlier reports indicated that Warri Refinery had resumed operations in late December 2024, though it is not yet fully operational. 

According to Mele Kyari, the Group CEO of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), only one of the refinery’s three units is functional, currently producing diesel, gas, and kerosene.

The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) had earlier urged the Nigerian government to privatize the Warri and Kaduna refineries for better efficiency in management.
