Priest Allegedly Shoots Boy Dead Over Fireworks During New Year Mass

A Catholic priest in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, has reportedly shot and killed a young boy after the latter set off fireworks during the New Year Mass.

The tragic incident, which occurred on January 1, 2025, has sparked outrage and disbelief across social media platforms. Details about the priest, the victim, and the parish remain unclear at the time of reporting.

According to a Facebook post by “For The Love Of Anambra,” the priest allegedly retrieved a firearm after the boy ignited the fireworks within the church premises and fatally shot him.

The incident has left the community in shock, with residents mourning the boy’s death and calling for an investigation into the matter.

Spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye confirmed the incident and stated that an inquiry is underway.

“We have launched a detailed investigation to uncover the facts surrounding this unfortunate event. Further updates will be provided as the case progresses,” Okoye assured.
