Deborah Fasoyin Reveals She Didn’t Compose Iconic Song ‘Odun Nlo Sopin’

Gospel music icon, Mrs. Deborah Fasoyin, widely associated with the cherished song *Odun Nlo Sopin*, has clarified that she is not the song’s original composer.

In an interview shared by FM 365 and reported by Church Times Nigeria, Fasoyin disclosed that the song predates her choir’s renowned 1979 rendition.

“I must confess to you, till tomorrow, we don’t know the composer of the song. We only added two verses to it,” Fasoyin revealed.

According to her, the chorus was already popular in Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) communities during end-of-year revivals in the 1970s. “We didn’t go to any mountain to pray to get the song. It was everywhere before we recorded it,” she explained.

Despite this, many have continued to credit her with the song’s creation. Her candidness has, however, earned her admiration from fans who praise her honesty.

*Odun Nlo Sopin*, popularized by Fasoyin and the Christ Apostolic Church Good Women Choir, remains an enduring anthem at year-end gatherings, celebrated for its spiritual depth and prayers for divine protection as a new year begins.

The song’s lasting relevance, transcending generations, cements its place as a cherished tradition in Nigeria’s gospel music heritage.
