Femi Branch Criticizes Cinemas For Favoring Certain Movies Over Others

Nollywood actor Femi Branch has voiced his displeasure with the increasing trend of cinemas giving preferential treatment to specific movies at the expense of others.

Speaking during a meet-and-greet event for Toyin Abraham’s latest movie, *Alakada Bad and Bougie*, Branch alleged that cinemas actively promote one film while sidelining others.

In a video shared online, Branch accused cinema staff of wearing promotional T-shirts for select movies and replacing media cards for other films at their counters with those of favored movies. He also claimed staff members sometimes persuade patrons to watch particular films, promising they are better than the audience’s initial choice.

“Cinemas should not dictate what people watch. It’s wrong and divisive. This needs to stop immediately,” Branch declared.

He emphasized the need for fairness and transparency in the cinema industry, urging cinemas to provide an equal platform for all producers.

This issue aligns with concerns previously raised by Toyin Abraham, who highlighted the challenges filmmakers face in cinema promotions. She noted that some fans even expect gifts in exchange for watching her films, putting producers who cannot afford such incentives at a disadvantage.

Similarly, Abraham and Mercy Aigbe have accused some cinemas of sabotaging their projects, adding to the growing frustration among industry stakeholders.

Branch’s call for fairness underscores the need for reforms in cinema marketing to ensure a level playing field for all filmmakers.
