Bayelsa Commissioner For Women Affairs Passes Away

The Bayelsa State Government has announced the sudden demise of Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, who passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024.  

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, the government expressed profound grief over the loss, describing it as a significant blow to the state.  

The statement read: “The Governor, Senator Douye Diri, and the government of Bayelsa State received the shocking news of the demise of Mrs. Elizabeth Bidei on Monday, December 30, 2024. Until her passing, she was the Commissioner for Women Affairs and a vital member of the State Executive Council.  

“Our hearts go out to her family, especially her widower, Chief Jackson Bidei, and her children. We offer our sincerest sympathies and prayers to them during this difficult time.  

“Her life and work left a profound impact on Bayelsa State, especially through her commitment to women’s welfare and empowerment. She will be remembered as a passionate public servant and a dedicated leader.”  

Governor Diri highlighted Mrs. Bidei’s instrumental role in shaping policies that benefited the state, adding that her contributions would leave a lasting legacy. 

He described her as a compassionate individual who prioritized the needs of others and worked tirelessly for the betterment of Bayelsa.  

The government further acknowledged the vacuum her death has created, emphasizing her impact as a policymaker and advocate for women’s rights.  

“The governor and the government of Bayelsa State are deeply saddened by her loss. We will miss her wise counsel and dedication to building a prosperous future for the state. She will always be remembered as a true servant of the people,” the statement concluded.  

The late commissioner is survived by her husband and children. Funeral arrangements will be announced by her family in due course.
