As preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has pledged to relegate the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
Kwankwaso vowed that the ruling APC would struggle to secure fewer than 15,000 votes in the state, mirroring the fate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections.
Speaking at his residence on Miller Road, Kano, while receiving NNPP delegates from the Kano North senatorial district, Kwankwaso expressed confidence in his party’s grassroots strength.

He commended the NNPP for its hard work during the 2023 elections, which left the PDP grappling for relevance in Kano, securing just 15,000 votes.
“Now, it is time to diminish APC’s influence,” Kwankwaso said. “We will work tirelessly to ensure their votes in Kano reduce to less than 15,000 by 2027. With our dedication and grassroots mobilisation, NNPP will solidify its position as the dominant political force in Kano and beyond.”
The NNPP leader also reflected on the party’s rapid rise, attributing its 2023 success to the resilience of its members, despite starting the campaign late as a relatively new political platform.
During the meeting,Abdul Bichi, leader of the Kano North NNPP delegation, reaffirmed the group’s unwavering loyalty to Kwankwaso. He distanced the delegation from the former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, who had fallen out of favor with the party.

“We have decided to part ways with Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi since he is no longer aligned with the party’s leadership,” Abdul stated. “We are here to renew our loyalty to Kwankwaso and reaffirm our commitment to the NNPP’s vision.”
Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, previously a close ally of Kwankwaso, was alleged to have led a faction advocating for Governor Abba Yusuf to assert full control over the state government, reportedly sidelining Kwankwaso.
This led to his suspension from the party and removal as SSG, though the government cited health reasons for his dismissal.
Kwankwaso and his supporters have since moved to consolidate their influence in Kano, positioning the NNPP as a formidable political force ahead of the 2027 elections.
