Popular comedian and filmmaker Bright Okpocha, known as Basketmouth, has criticized some Nigerian filmmakers for not showcasing the country’s rich culture in their movies.
In an interview with Hip TV, Basketmouth expressed disappointment over recent epic films, claiming they missed a significant opportunity to portray Nigeria’s heritage positively.
He pointed out that many epic movies resemble stage plays and fail to effectively capture the essence of Nigerian culture.
Despite his frustrations, Basketmouth remains hopeful that filmmakers will still get another chance to make a lasting impact.
“I believe we still have the opportunity to get it right,” he said. “But most filmmakers blew it. I’ve seen epic movies that were disappointing. Let’s hope we have another chance.”
Basketmouth acknowledged that only a few films have impressed him so far, urging the industry to do better in future productions.
