‘You Are All Re-Elected’ – Tinubu To 10th NASS During Budget Presentation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu humorously referred to the 10th National Assembly as the 11th during the presentation of the 2025 budget proposal, sparking laughter and cheers among lawmakers at the joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives on Wednesday. 

Tinubu, addressing the assembly with his second budget tagged the ‘Budget of Restoration’ began his 30-minute speech at 12:40 PM, following an opening remark by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

“In fulfilment of my constitutional duties and commitment to rebuilding Nigeria, I hereby present the 2025 budget to the joint session of the 11th National Assembly,” Tinubu declared.

The chamber erupted in laughter as lawmakers corrected the President, reminding him it was the 10th National Assembly. Tinubu, catching the mix-up, quipped, “10? I wrote 11, which means you are all re-elected,” earning more cheers.

Tinubu affirmed that the budget aims to restore macroeconomic stability, promote inclusive growth, reduce poverty, and improve income distribution.

Tinubu projected ₦34.8tn in revenue to fund the budget, with a total expenditure of ₦47.9tn, including ₦15.81tn for debt servicing. The budget deficit of ₦13.0tn represents 3.89% of GDP.

• Inflation reduction from 34.6% to 15% in 2025.  
• Exchange rate improvement from ₦1,700/$ to ₦1,500/$.  
• Crude oil production pegged at 2.06 million barrels per day.  
• Reduced importation and increased exportation of refined petroleum products.  

Tinubu concluded with optimism, describing the budget as “ambitious but necessary to secure our future.”
