Kano Government, Islamic Dev‘t Bank, Others Complete Africa’s Largest Grain Market

The Kano State Government in conjunction with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and Lives Livelihood Funds (LLF) have completed various critical projects at the Dawanau International Grains Market in Kano City to improve commercial activities.

The Infrastructural Engineer of Kano State Agro-Pastoral Development Project, Engr. Zaharaddeen Zarewa, said, the projects include roads, Secretariat, Police Post drainages and street lights.

He told journalists that, in the partnership program, about N628 million has been spent on the project to develop the infrastructures in the international market.

Zarewa explained that N508 million was used for the construction of four kilometres of feeder roads in various parts of the market, drainages and solar-powered streetlights.

On the other hand, N120 million is spent on the Construction of a Secretariat, a Mosque and a police post.

“The projects are aimed at improving Agriculture, particularly its value.

“And what the Kano state government did was to close the infrastructure gap in the market.

Dawanau International Grains Market is the largest market in the whole of West Africa. Parts of what the market was lacking were good road networks, conference rooms, and street lights.

The Deputy Chairman Dawanau International Grains Market Alhaji Baba Wawu expressed satisfaction with the Infrastructural development in the market.

He said the projects have improved commercial activities in the night and security.

Wawu said, “We are very happy with the projects because many African Countries especially those neighbouring No Nigeria are coming to buy our products and these infrastructures have added value to what we do.”

The Dawanau International Grains Market is central to the sales of all kinds of grains in Nigeria and all the countries that share borders with Nigeria.
