Port Harcourt Refinery Over 90% Completed – NNPCL

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced that the Port Harcourt refinery rehabilitation project is over 90% complete.

This was disclosed on Monday by the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, during a visit to the refinery by labour leaders from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Rivers State.

The project marks a significant milestone following years of delays and missed deadlines. DAILY POST recalls that NNPCL had earlier activated the 60,000 barrels-per-day (bpd) phase one of the facility.

The rehabilitation of the 210,000 bpd refinery commenced in 2021 after the federal government secured a $1.5 billion contract to restore the facility, which had been non-functional for years.

Initially, NNPCL did not disclose the production capacity of petrol, diesel, jet fuel, and naphtha, sparking criticism.

The company later clarified that it was producing 1.4 million litres of petrol per day, a figure considered low by industry experts.
