Google has unveiled its 2024 Year in Search report for Nigeria, highlighting the people, topics, and trends that captured the nation’s attention.
Topping the list were Bobrisky, Beta Edu, and Shallipopi, while cultural and entertainment queries also featured prominently.
According to Google West Africa’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, the annual report reflects the questions and interests that shaped Nigerians’ lives this year.
Bobrisky, the popular crossdresser and influencer, led the list of trending personalities, followed by Beta Edu, a prominent political figure.
Globally, searches for Donald Trump topped the charts, while queries about the deaths of Junior Pope and Herbert Wigwe also surged.
In entertainment, movies like A Tribe Called Judah, Treasure in the Sky, and Damsel dominated searches.
TV shows such as Supacell, My Demon, and Queen of Tears captivated viewers, while recipes like “Pornstar Martini” emerged as culinary favorites.
On the music scene, Shallipopi and Khaid saw a rise in popularity, with Boy Spyce’s I Don’t Care becoming the top trending song, followed by Ayra Starr’s Ozeba and Commas.
Nigerians also frequently searched for song lyrics, including Chandler Moore’s Ogechi and Omemma.
Search trends extended to pressing issues, including “How much is dollar to naira today?” and “Who won the U.S. presidential election?”Queries about the national grid, minimum wages, and the new national anthem reflected ongoing concerns about Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.
