Actor John Dumelo Wins Ayawaso West Wuogon Parliamentary Seat

Popular Ghanaian actor John Dumelo has clinched victory in the Ayawaso West Wuogon parliamentary constituency, running on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Dumelo defeated the incumbent, Lydia Alhassan, of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) by a significant margin.

This marks a turning point for Dumelo, who first contested the seat in 2018 and narrowly lost in the 2020 election. In the 2024 polls, Dumelo secured 40,561 votes, significantly outpacing Alhassan’s 27,377 votes.

Speaking after his victory, Dumelo dedicated his success to the people of Ayawaso West Wuogon.

“This victory is not just for me but for the people of Ayawaso West. I am committed to ensuring that we build a stronger, more prosperous community together,” Dumelo said.

He added, “This is a valuable lesson for everyone. It’s not about money; it’s about the development of the people and addressing their needs.”

Dumelo is a household name in both Nollywood and Ghallywood, having starred in popular films such as 4Play, 40 Looks Good on You, A Northern Affair, Adams Apples, and A Private Storm. In recent years, he has also gained recognition as a farmer and philanthropist, transitioning into politics to champion community development.

With this victory, Dumelo has solidified his position as a rising political force in Ghana, blending his celebrity influence with his commitment to public service.
