• LASU Staff Unions Declare Indefinite Strike

Four staff unions at Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, have declared an indefinite strike to protest the non-implementation of their demands by the state government and the university management.

At the Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting of the four staff unions; Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Universities, (SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), members were directed to down tools commencing from Friday, December 6, 2024.

In the notification of the JAC’S indefinite strike action sent to Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University Ojo which was exclusively obtained by The Matrix Newspaper, the JAC lamented that government has for long taken its members for granted as they seem not to be responsive and sensitive to the welfare of its members

The notice reads, “In consonance with the decision of the Joint Action Committee of the Lagos State University Staff Unions in its letter to the Governor, dated 19th November 2024 in which we reiterated that if the State Government failed to accede to our demands with regards to the implementation of the reports of the Committees put in place by Government by the 6th of December, 2024, we hereby notify you and the management of the university that all the staff unions have declared a total and indefinite strike action, effective from the 6^th December, 2024, after the day’s close of work.

“Much as we appreciate your efforts at resolving this matter amicably, we note that the government has for long taken our members for granted as they seem not to be responsive and sensitive to the welfare of our members”.

The notice was signed by Prof. Ibrahim A. Bakare Chairman, ASUU-LASU; Comrade Oluwaseyi Lawal, Chairman, SSANU-LASU; Comrade Dr. Olujimi Adejo, Chairman, NAAT-LASU Comrade Obajemi Sanni Chairman, NASU-LASU.
