Bandits Abduct Ex-Rep Member, Kill Police Escort In Nasarawa

Former House of Representatives member, Hon. Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu, was abducted on Monday eveningby suspected bandits while traveling to Jos.

The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. between Nunku in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and Gwantu in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attack turned fatal when the assailants engaged in a gun battle with Kigbu’s police escort, resulting in the officer’s death.

Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the bandits fired sporadically, causing panic among other road users.

Residents in nearby villages confirmed the incident and noted that the area has long been a hotspot for banditry and other criminal activities.

Efforts to reach the Nasarawa State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer were not returned at the time of this report.

The abduction and the loss of life have reignited concerns over the persistent insecurity in the region.

Many locals are calling for urgent government intervention and an increased security presence along the troubled route.
