Kanu Played In All Nation’s Cup Without A Goal – Lawal

Former Super Eagles midfielder Dimeji Lawal has called on Nigerians to exercise patience with Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface, who has struggled to replicate his club form for the national team.

Despite his stellar performances in Germany, where he has been a key player under Xabi Alonso, Boniface has only managed one goal in 11 appearances for the Super Eagles.

Lawal likened Boniface’s struggles to those of Nigerian football legend Nwankwo Kanu, who failed to score a single goal in multiple AFCON appearances.

“Nobody ever doubted Kanu’s talent despite his inability to score in the Nations Cup,” Lawal said in an interview.

“Boniface is an excellent player, and watching him succeed in one of the world’s top leagues shows his quality. He will eventually find his rhythm in the Super Eagles jersey.”

Lawal also stressed that leaving Boniface out of the national team could spark public outrage, given his achievements in Europe. Boniface is currently sidelined with a thigh injury and is expected to return to action at the end of the year.
